INTRODUCTION:
You have just been selected as the new basketball coach for the 2004 summer
Olympic Games. Your first job is to put together a top notch team of players who
will play in the games. Choose the 10 players you feel will be the best players
for your team. You will need to use statistics and achievements to make informed
decisions about what players should be on the team. Look for league leaders and
All-Star players to start with.
THE TASK:
1. Make a list of ten players that would be good prospects for your team. Select
two players at each position. (point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power
forward, and center).
2. Find player information about each athlete. (awards, all-star appearances,
Olympics etc.)
3. Find statistics that show why you chose each player. Use statistics like:
points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, double-doubles, or shooting
percentage.
4. Choose at least one player that was not on the previous all-star team.
Explain why they should have been on the all-star team and why they are on your
Olympic team.
PROCESS:
Look through the websites provided and form a NBA or WNBA team that you feel
would be the best for the Olympics in 2004. Have reasons for each player
selected describing why they should be on the team. Support your selections
because a debate will take place and the team that you selected will be compared
to other teams. Be able to defend your decisions, and prove that your selections
are superior. Have a list of your players with the information requested in the
Task.
EVALUATION:
1. Make sure to fill the roster chart.
2. Use statistics you feel are important.
3. Provide information on players on sheet provided.
