WebQuest 2005

SOCCER TEAM

Introduction:

Do you think you can select and create the best soccer team? If so can you win a championship with that team? What do you think makes a good soccer team? Do you think you can win with on soccer star or a well-rounded team? What abilities are the most important to play soccer? If you think you can be the best coach and manager then step foreword and take this task. If you think you know what it takes to be a champion then show it. This quest will let you explore the dollar amount associated with a player's skills. If you think you have what it takes put your skills up against our classmates and teacher.

The Task:

Work in a group to create a soccer team. You will choose from a list of players, given their skills, and there value. You will have to make sure to stay under the salary cap. You will create a team name, uniforms, formations, and strategies. You will have to explain your strategies, formation, why you chose each player in an oral and written presentation. Once your team is made, a season will be simulated to see how the teams do.

The Procedure:

1. Form groups of three; create a team name, colors and uniforms.

2. Come up with a strategy and formation - use the field form..

3. From the list of players on the webquest choose 16 players to be on your team, making sure not to go over the salary cap. 

4. Give reasoning why you selected each player - use the reasons form.

5. Pick your lineup.

6. Give an oral presentation based on all the above topics.

7. You will put your players onto a computer team and then a season will be simulated.

Grading

Portfolio:                                  60%

Presentation:                            30%

Teamwork:                               10%

Your project will be graded using an evaluation rubric. The rubric will consist of the following criteria. Each group member will need to complete an evaluation for their participation in the project as well as the participation of the other members in their group. Next, each group will need to submit a portfolio containing the following information: the list of there players and why they selected teach player, there team name and uniforms, there strategies and formation and lineups, as well as a group and the groups answers to the conclusion questions. 

 

Conclusion:

1. How did your group decide what were the most meaningful attributes that make the best soccer players?

2. How did your group decide to select a team? Why did your group select each player?

3. What type of impact did the salary cap have on making your team?

4. How did you come up with your teams strategies or formation?

5. What positions did you think make the best soccer teams?
