Outdoor Game Creation

A WebQuest for 6-8 Grade Students

Introduction

I need you to help create a new game for our Physical Education class.  This game will be used in your P.E. classes with you and your classmates.  We will put a booklet together of all the games created in the classroom.  These games can also be used at home with your friends and family.

Task

  • You and a partner must create a game to use in your Physical Education

  • We will gather all games together and make a booklet.

  • Create a game incorporating at least one skill from each set below.

     

    • Loco-Motor Movements

      • Walk, Run, Hop, Skip, Jump, Crawl, Gallop, Slide, etc.

    • Non-Loco-Motor Movements

      • Bend, Twist, Squat, Kneel, Push, Pull, etc.

    • Eye/Hand or Eye/Foot Coordination

      • Catch, Throw (overhand, underhand), Bounce, Roll, Tag   or   

      •  Kick, Hop; Leap; Jump; (using direction), Dribble, Punt

    • Spatial Awareness

      • Your Positioning (space around you) in reference to the other players. 

        • Field or court position

    *Please ask if there is a movement you would like to use that is not listed here.

Process

  • Create a new game that can be played without the use of special equipment. (pool, climbing wall, inline skates, etc.)

  • Equipment that is available such as balls, bats, cones, Frisbees, racquets, may be used in your game.

  • Follow the steps below.

    1. Research from all of the following sources: books, magazines, internet, and interview a person from the health/fitness field.
    2. Create the rules of how to play the game.
      • Game must be at least 10 minutes long.
    3. The type of field or playing area the game will be played on.
    4. What skills are needed to play the game? (refer to the task)
    5. How long is the game? (examples: innings, quarters, periods, or play to a certain score or time.)
    6. What is the scoring system? (Points -how many? Levels)
    7. Safety factors for the game and players.
    8. Once you have a strong idea your new game. Use this guideline to help you.
    9. Make an Outline for your game. (This will be used to put together our booklet)
    10. Write a paper explaining how the game is played.  The rules, number of players, skills involved in the game, how the game is scored, safety factors for the game, what type of physical conditioning can you gain, and a list of references used.
