Pre-Teaching
Instructional objectives for the academic goals: Groups will construct and present a timeline of historical events from 1950-2000.
Materials: Paper, markers, crayons, post-it notes in several sizes, rulers, tape
Time required: 20 minutes Group size: 3 or 4
Assignment of groups (who /and/or how are groups assigned): Base groups were formed by the teacher at the beginning of the semester.
Roles and who assigns the roles:
The individual will take the lead for the following, but all group members can participate in the other roles. Groups will make their own assignment of roles.

Task steps and procedures [Structuring the task] (cooperative model used):
1. On a sheet of paper for each decade, students will draw a line down the middle.
2. The top of the timeline will represent National and International Events and on the bottom of the timeline they will each put three-five personal events.
3. The timeline needs to have some pictures for visual effect
4. Groups will share the timelines and describe why they choose the events as significant to history.
Positive Interdependence: Stay in assigned roles and share research materials
Individual Accountability: Individual and Group assessment
Criteria for Success (assessment): Completion of timeline with 3-5 personal events and 3-5 events per-decade. It needs to be neat, have correct spelling and have visual appeal.
Expected Behaviors (social objective): Do their roles, cooperate within the group and use we statement instead of I statements.
Monitoring and Processing
Monitor for: Sharing ideas, cooperation, role adherence and we statements. Extra group points will be given for we statements heard. (place card for points on the table)
Intervene if: there is uncooperative behaviors and to answer questions
Process by: The processor will ask if they adhered to their roles and used we statements. Did it help the cooperation to use we statements? Why? What does the group need to work on next time?
End by: Class discussion of task and we statement success or suggestions for improvement
