Barbara Brodhagen is a middle school teacher and Learning Coordinator in the Madison Metropolitan Schools, Madison, Wisconsin and holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to her present position, Barbara was a learning disabilities teacher and a Program Manager for Staff Development in New York State. In the latter position she was responsible for planning and coordinating staff development and school improvement projects for twenty-seven school districts in a Board of Cooperative Educational Services. She has also been a Carnegie Scholar in a national teacher research network sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Ms. Brodhagen has been a speaker at many conferences and has been a consultant for school districts in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Portugal. She has been Chair of the National Middle School Association Curriculum Committee, and was on the committee that rewrote "This We Believe," the guiding document of the National Middle School Association. She has also written for and been cited in several books and journals on curriculum integration and democratic education for work on interactive curriculum and teacher-student planning.
