Idaho Standards for Middle Level Teachers:

Principle 2: Knowledge of Human Development and Learning - The teacher understands how students learn and develop, and provides opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development.

Knowledge

  1. The teacher understands the major concepts, principles, and theories of young adolescent development - intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and moral.
  2. The teacher understands the unique needs of young adolescents regarding health, sexuality, and the media,
  3. The teacher understands the impact upon young adolescents of the interrelationships among the school, family, peer groups, communities, and society.

 

Performance

  1. The teacher presents and deals effectively with issues of health, sexuality, and media influences.
  2. The teacher engages young adolescents in activities related to their interpersonal, community, and societal responsibilities.
