Level Teachers:
Principle 2: Knowledge of Human
Development and Learning - The teacher understands how students learn and develop,
and provides opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal
development.
Knowledge
- The teacher understands the major concepts, principles, and theories of
young adolescent development - intellectual, physical, social, emotional,
and moral.
- The teacher understands the unique needs of young adolescents regarding
health, sexuality, and the media,
- The teacher understands the impact upon young adolescents of the interrelationships
among the school, family, peer groups, communities, and society.
Performance
- The teacher presents and deals effectively with issues of health, sexuality,
and media influences.
- The teacher engages young adolescents in activities related to their interpersonal,
community, and societal responsibilities.
