Secretary's Message including information on the 2008 IAPS Conference
Danny Rosenberg
Greetings everyone,
It is hard to believe that the 2008 IAPS meeting, in conjunction with the JSPSPE, is just a few weeks away in Tokyo. If you have yet to register, please do so. The tentative program looks outstanding and the planned social activities fascinating, both may be viewed at: http://wwwsoc.nii.ac.jp/jspspe/iaps/IAPS_2008_Programme.html
Please note and attend the Annual General Business Meeting at the conference which is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, 11:30 am. Forward me any items you would like to discuss at the meeting.
Election ballots were sent out recently and the deadline for voting is August 11, 2008. Please be sure to forward your votes to Terry Roberts (terence.roberts@vu.edu.au), Cc to Doug Mclaughlin (douglas.mclaughlin@csun.edu).
I am pleased to announce once again that the 2009 IAPS conference will be held in Seattle, Washington hosted by the Center for the Study of Sport and Exercise, Seattle University. This promises to be an exciting venue and preparations are already underway. Further details will be passed along when they become available.
Finally, there are planned IAPS sessions for the eastern and central regions of the American Philosophical Association later this year and early next year. More information about these events will be forthcoming.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and hope to see you in Tokyo!

The 36th annual conference of the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport (IAPS 2008) will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from the 10th through 15th of September 2008, under the auspices of the Japan Society for the Philosophy of Sport and Physical Education. The society will be celebrating its 30th anniversary (JSPSPE 2008) and hold the Research Seminar for Sport Philosophy 2008 (RSSP 2008), together with IAPS 2008.
The venue, the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center (NYC), once utilized as the Olympic Village for the Games of the XVIII Olympiad in Tokyo, 1964. Reconstructions and improvements have been made to provide a better environment for a wide range of activities, such as conferences, lectures, symposiums, meetings of small groups. News
from the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport (John Russell, Editor)
The fall 2008 issue (XXXV, Issue 2) of the journal is in production and
members should be receiving their copies shortly. The table of contents is
listed below.
Submissions continue at close to the record rate set last year. The
editorial board, in particular, deserves the membership's hearty thanks for
shouldering this increased work -- and continuing its outstanding work.
I will be consulting with the board about a special topic for the Fall 2009
issue. I am thinking of inviting submissions on the role of technology in
sport, which would coincide with a conference on this topic that Gabriela
Tymowski, Angela Schneider, and I are currently planning to be held in
Vancouver in May or June 2009. However, I would be very pleased to receive
suggestions for other topics. More details later.
