The opportunity to pursue higher education seems distant to some who have encountered stumbling blocks. The University of Idaho’s federally funded Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a place where Idaho residents, especially those from low-income and/or families who have no prior college graduates, can begin to realize their dreams for a brighter future.

The Educational Opportunity Center helps people obtain education. The center provides a range of free services that assist program participants in understanding their educational options and in navigating admissions and financial aid processes in order to reach their educational goals.

Who is eligible for EOC services?

Services are available to U.S. citizens and legal residents age 19 years and above who reside in Idaho. Priority is given to individuals who are "low income"  and "first generation" (individuals whose birth or adoptive parents do not have a bachelor's degree). Prospective participants must complete an application and sign a financial statement indicating their annual taxable income.

How much do services cost?

All EOC services are free of charge. That is because the center is funded entirely by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The EOC has been sponsored by the University of Idaho.

What services does the EOC provide?

Ø      Assistance completing admissions requirements in order to get into a college, university, or vocational school of one's choice

Ø      Assistance finding money to pay for college and completing the required financial aid forms

Ø      Assistance examining academic and career interests

Ø      Assistance learning about and registering for college entrance exams
