Masters Degree in Counseling in Human
Services
Program Overview
The University of Idaho graduate program offers quality, professional
study for the student seeking a career as a professional counselor. Placement
in this program is competitive and limited to a specific number of students per
academic year. Enrollees work together on a prescribed program of study to
complete the Master of Education (non-thesis) or Masters of Science (thesis)
degree in Counseling and Human Services with an emphasis in community &
rehabilitation counseling.
The program curriculum is a blend of academic and experiential course
work with considerable emphasis on supervised practicum and internship
placements in human service agencies. The program of study is accredited by the
Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
and The Council of Rehabilitation Education (CORE).
Follow-up surveys of program graduates indicate consistently high
placement rates in a variety of community, business and industry, health
services and private practice settings. All University of Idaho counseling
graduates are immediately eligible to take the National Counselor Examination (NCE),
which is a requirement for obtaining an Idaho Professional Counselor License.
Graduates will also be eligible to take the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor
exam (CRC), which leads, in part, to the issuance of the Certified
Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential.
