Mia Swartwood

Mia Swartwood was adopted from South Korean 24 years ago.  With opportunities given to her by her parents, she was exposed to both classical piano (a state competitor) as well as ballet.  Mia began ballet at age four.  For the last 12 years she has studied Vagonnava, Russian-style ballet from her ballet instructor, Michiko, a professional ballet soloist with the Tokyo Opera Ballet, in Japan.   With her, Mia has danced several important lead roles of the famous ballets including: Swan Lake (Four Swans, and later, Two Swans), Giselle (Giselle), Sleeping Beauty (Lilac Fairy), Don Quixote (Best Friend; War & Discourse), Copellia (Best Friend), and various Ballet Gala performances.  Mia has also placed 1st or 2nd place in several dance competitions in Washington State as well as Vancouver, Canada.  In addition to performing and competing, Mia has been a teacher’s aid, a substitute teacher, and an instructor.  For the past two years, Mia has been a WSU PE ballet instructor, and this past school year, Mia has been a ballet instructor for Festival Dance in Pullman and Moscow. She will be married next August.
