Masters in Dance Pedagogy

The Center for Dance offers a one-year intensive program in Dance Pedagogy. Many of our graduates are teaching and running dance programs at major dance centers and universities across the country.

Teaching assistantships are available.  Contact the Division of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance office for more details.

Thesis Options

Specialization: Dance Pedagogy 
The 30-credit hour program of study will focus on advanced skills in analyzing the teaching and learning process in the college, and K-12 setting, the private studio and the professional dance arena. 

Core (Required) 9 cr 
ED 582 Quantitative Research 3 cr 
or
ED 588 Qualitative Research 3 cr
PE 522 Pedagogy Applied to HPERD 3 cr 
PE 544 Program Development 3 cr

Electives in HPERD, Education or Allied Fields  21 cr 
21 hours of coursework at the 400 level and above from Dance; Exercise Science, Health, Sport Psychology, Sport Philosophy and Recreation, Education, Physchology or allied fields. 


Deficiencies

A student whose undergraduate course work does not include adequate preparation may be required to complete deficiency work. Deficiencies are determined by the academic advisor and division director. 


Transfer Credits
A maximum of 12 approved transfer credits accepted. Workshop type credits are not acceptable.
