DANCE AUDITIONS
We are delighted that you are interested in auditioning for the Dance major in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance at the University of Idaho. All students who wish to audition must be admitted to the University of Idaho as a dance major before they can audition. Students may audition in person or via videotape. For more information, please contact the Dance Coordinator, Professor Greg Halloran at halloran@uidaho.edu or the department office at (208) 885-7921.
Admission into the dance major, as well as placement into upper level technique classes, is by audition only. Students will not be permitted to take DAN 101, First Year/Transfer Student Seminar, unless they are admitted into the dance major. Prior to your scheduled audition, please submit the Audition Registration Form (attached). Students will be notified of the audition results within 2 weeks after the audition.
The first step in the admission process is for you to apply for admission to the University of Idaho. Information about the application process can be found on the University of Idaho web site (http://www.students.uidaho.edu/admissions/). Once you have been admitted by the University of Idaho, you should submit the Audition Registration Form.
On the day of the audition, you should arrive at least 15 minutes early. Studio space will be available at least ˝ hour prior to the start of the audition for dancers who wish to warm up. Dancers should come prepared to move. No specific dress code is required but students are asked to wear tight fitting clothes so that the dance faculty are able to observe all aspects of their movement. Students do not need to prepare any dance material for the audition. All material will be taught by the faculty and will consist of a ballet barre, center work, across the floor, modern and jazz locomotion, and a combination.
Idaho residents who wish to be considered for the Marshall Arts Scholarship should submit a separate letter requesting consideration by February 15, 2008. This scholarship is for Idaho residents, with preference given to students from small towns. Other dance scholarships are available to all majors after the first year of study. Students are encouraged to contact the University of Idaho’s Financial Aid Office for other university scholarships and grants.
