Overview
of the International Business Unit
Welcome
to the world of International business, marketing and economics. This curriculum guide is designed to help teachers infuse
international business issues and concepts into their classes and to
facilitate students learning the material.
It is impossible to adequately teach business, marketing, or
economics without considering the impact of international trade and our
global economy. Improvements
in communications, transportation, and technology have greatly increased
the volume and variety of goods and services that originate beyond
national borders. International
business concerns are numerous and complex.
After studying these issues it will be apparent that a healthy
world economy with few trade restrictions benefits us all.
This
guide was developed at the University of Idaho during the 1996-97 year.
It is formatted and structured to closely follow the recently
published NBEA standards for International Business.
The guide is divided into two main parts. The first is the body of the document that contains
descriptive narrative on the different topics covered.
The second is the activities at the back of the guide.
As you read through the narrative you will find we have referenced
each activity in the section which we believe would be appropriate.
Funding
was provided by the Idaho State Division of Vocational Education.
Much time and effort were put in to the design and development.
Future revisions will be available through the University of Idaho,
Adult, Counselor, and Technology Education web site for Business Education
and the University of Idaho
Center for Economic Education web site.
Perhaps
the single best set of supporting materials can be found in Virtual
Economics, a CD-Rom produced by the National Council on Economic
Education. This CD contains
information and materials which address international topics in both print
form and multi-media presentations. If
you are unfamiliar with Virtual Economics contact your local Center for
Economic Education for availability and training.
