Lesson 1

Title: Introduction to Power Point

Purpose: To introduce students to the Power Point Program

Objectives: Students will be able to see the value of the PowerPoint program by viewing the demonstration given by the teacher and participating in classroom activities.

Materials Needed: Power Point Projector and a presentation to deliver to the class

Anticipatory Set: Ask the students what a good presentation would look like and write their answers up on the board.

Process:

  1. Give a presentation to the class using power point. This will create interest by showing students an example that you have created. This presentation could be about power point to serve as two purposes: give an example and relate critical power-point information to the class.
  2. Have students get into groups and discuss reasons why Power Point Presentations are beneficial. Each group is expected to come up with 10 reasons for use of a PowerPoint presentation. This will be important for students to realize the importance of PowerPoint and gain an understanding of the many uses of the program. Next have each group list two ideas on the board of why a power point presentation should be used. This activity will create a discussion of uses and also raise student interest in the subject area.

Lesson 2

Title: Introducing the content of a Presentation

Purpose: Students learn the components and organization of a presentation

Anticipatory Set:
Ask the students what types of things are important in creating a delivering a presentation. Let them know that today they will learn how their presentation should be organized.

Go over with the students the important aspects of any presentation. Some ideas include, 1-an introduction, 2-a statement of purpose or objective of the presentation, 3-what do you want your audience to learn-list three or four main points, 4-a summary of your main points. Have the students write down the list as you write it up on the board.

Let students know that they will be developing their own presentations and give them time to research some information on current events in business.

When students have decided on a topic, have them make a list of the 5 most important points of their chosen topic—these will become the points of interest for the presentation.

Lesson 3

Materials Needed: Websites, and worksheets

Process:

  1. Go through power point and discuss the special terms they will need to know. A useful website that will walk the students through PowerPoint and provide quizzes and worksheets is: http://www.actden.com/pp/unit1/1_main.htm. Individual lessons could include: changing backgrounds, transitions, builds, hyperlinks, clip art, selecting colors and fonts, creating headers and footers, changing the slide, selecting colors and fonts, and developing professional looking slides.
